Eva Pierrakos

Eva Pierrakos was a remarkable spiritual teacher and psychic medium who developed Pathwork, a system for spiritual development. Born Eva Wassermann in Vienna, Austria, in 1915, she was the daughter of Jakob Wassermann, a famous Jewish writer. Growing up in Vienna during the politically turbulent years following the First World War, Eva had a lively personality and enjoyed life, nature, animals, dancing, and skiing.

Early Life and Spiritual Awakening

As a young woman, Eva began experiencing automatic writing, developing a relationship with an entity known only as “the Guide.” This marked the beginning of her spiritual journey. In 1939, shortly before the Nazi takeover of Austria, Eva moved to the United States. She lived in New York for a time and later in Switzerland, where she further developed her psychic abilities.

The Development of Pathwork

In 1952, while visiting Switzerland, Eva had a profound spiritual experience that led her to fully embrace her gift. Over time, she transitioned from automatic writing to channeling spoken messages from the Guide. From 1957 to 1979, Eva channeled 258 lectures and held countless question-and-answer sessions and private consultations.

The material she received formed the foundation of Pathwork, a psycho-spiritual-physical process focused on self-transformation and identification with the “God Self.” The Guide’s lectures focused on confronting and transforming both the light and the darkness within the human psyche, distinguishing Pathwork from many contemporary spiritual philosophies.

Personal Life and Legacy

In 1971, Eva married Dr. John Pierrakos, a psychiatrist and co-founder of Core Energetics. This collaboration strengthened her work and introduced energetic elements into the practice of Pathwork.

Eva Pierrakos died in 1979, leaving behind a rich legacy of spiritual teachings. Her work continues to influence people around the world, with Pathwork centers in North America, Europe, Africa, South America, and Australia.

Impact and Lasting Influence

The Pathwork Foundation, based in Silver Spring, Maryland, continues to disseminate Eva’s teachings. Her work has been published in several books, including Pathwork: Working on Yourself—or Not? and Continuing on Your Path. Today, thousands of students and followers continue to study and apply the teachings that Eva Pierrakos channeled throughout her life.

In the Netherlands, there has been an active group for more than 25 years, with several Pathwork Helpers working individually and in groups. Martien Janssen translated many of Eva Pierrakos’s lectures and was one of the founders of the Dutch Pathwork organization.
